Restarts

Free Kick, Corner Kick, and Throw-in Explained

How common soccer restarts work after fouls or the ball leaves the field.

Free kicks

Direct and indirect free kicks restart play after different offences. Direct free kicks can score directly; indirect free kicks need another touch before a goal can count.

Throw-ins and corners

A throw-in is taken from the touchline. A corner kick is taken from the corner area after the defending team last touches the ball over its own goal line.
